Gifts in Wills
The South Hants Pony & Horse Protection Group is a registered Charity and Gifts in Wills from supporters are very important to us.
Leaving a legacy is a long-lasting way that you can help our important work of caring for, rehabilitating and re-homing unwanted horses and ponies across the South Coast of England.
Who leaves Gifts in Wills to South Hants Pony & Horse Protection Group?
People who either have a passion for horses and ponies, or those who really want to make a difference. It's a simple gesture that anyone can choose to make. We welcome gifts of any size because every gift is valuable to us and goes directly into supporting the unwanted horses and ponies that come to us.
How do we use the Gifts?
Gifts left to us in Wills are vital to providing daily care for the horses and ponies at our site in Curdridge, near Southampton. It's used for hay, feed, bedding, veterinary fees, hoof care, and much more.
We only have an 8 acre property and gifts in Wills also help us to maintain the grazing, shelters and stables that are used to house the equines.
We have a small team of volunteers that work with the horses and ponies to rehabilitate them, linking into professional help where required. Our aim is to find the equines new homes, with loving Adopters, who will continue to look after the horse or pony for the rest of its life.
How do I leave a Gift in my Will / Legacy?
To start with you need to decide what type of legacy you want to leave us. Some of the most common legacies are:
- Residuary - A share of your estate after all other gifts and debts are paid
- Pecuniary - A fixed sum of money
- Specific - A gift in kind, for example a piece of jewellery, a property or an amount of shares.
The Next Step
The next step is to make an appointment to see your Solicitor. They will help you to word your legacy and write your Will.
If you already have a Will but would like to add a legacy to South Hants Pony & Horse Protection Group, you can do this through a Codicil, which is an addition to your Will and doesn't revoke an existing Will. Your Solicitor can advise you on how to add a Codicil.
Remember, legacies or gifts in Wills don't have to be huge. We are truely grateful for any gifts we receive - It will all go to helping unwanted horses and ponies that come through the charity.
