Re-homing
Re-homing horses and ponies is a vital part of our work, especially as we only have 8 acres of land at our site in Curdridge.

We look to re-home horses and ponies in a couple of ways; one where we re-home the equine from our site, another where we re-home directly from the original owner to the adopter. In both cases the horse/pony is signed over to The South Hants Pony & Horse Protection Group and remains officially ours for the rest of its natural life.

The Adoption Process
Initially we will ask you to complete an application form and send it back to us. This tells us a bit more about you and the type of equine you are looking for, e.g. companion, riding pony.
Upon matching you with an equine that suits your requirements we will either arrange for you to come to our site or visit the horse/pony directly at their current home.
The next step is for you to get to know the horse/pony and make sure that you are both happy with each other! This is really important as we want the relationship between you both to be a lasting one. Life can be quite unsettling for these wonderful characters if they have to keep moving homes and adopters.
So, all being well a representative from The South Hants Pony & Horse Protection Group will come out to visit the location you will be planning to keep the horse/pony. We will check the suitability and the safety of your field/stables/yard. This is also really important as we need to make sure they will be safe and happy.
The next step is to ask you to complete an Apdoptors contract, which outlines the terms and conditions of adopting one of our equines. It includes areas such as insurance and how you must insure the horse/pony to cover third party liability. Also to maintain the equine's healthcare, including vaccinations, feet and teeth. As with owning any equine, all of these areas become your responsibility.
Once everything is agreed we arrange with you the best way to get your new horse/pony to your yard/field.
Over the following weeks/months we arrange to come out and visit you both to check everything is okay, and answer any queries you may have. Additionally we are always at the end of the telehone or e-mail in the future.
All Adopters are required to become Members of The South Hants Pony & Horse Protection Group. Please see Membership & Sponsorship for more information.
